Keynote speaker for the day will be Sue Egersdorff, Operational Director, Extended &Integrated Leadership Development, National College for Leadership of Schools & Children's Services. Commenting on the conference, Sue Egersdorff said:"My boldest, bravest and most successful ideas have without exception been inspired and shaped by watching, talking with, but above all, listening to children and young people. Every young person has intrinsic potential to be a great leader. It is our job to encourage and nurture this talent - but above all to allow our young people every opportunity to lead us. This conference will do just that!"

The day will give delegates the opportunity to pick and choose interactive workshops to learn 'first-hand' from those already involved in making young people leadership work, plus there will 'How-To' surgeries giving further guidance on how to make it happen locally.Delegates will be able to take away tips and tools to use in their own setting as soon as possible to get young people involved in supporting and leading learning. Visitors to the event will also be able to visit the UFA Shop, where they can review an array of UFA's innovative resources and materials and make purchases.

UFA Chief Executive, Linda Gregory comments "We're excited about hosting this UFA conference in partnership with Children and Young People Now, with the focus on increasing aspiration and achievement for young people.Whether you are new to young people's leadership or perhaps you've been working in youth leadership for some time and are looking for some new ideas, we invite you to come along and see how we can help you and your young people to lead and achieve."

NOTES TO EDITOR:

1. The UFA is a national education charity. Founded in Birmingham in 1996 by Professor Tim Brighouse, we work with Local Authorities and other partners across the UK. The UFA is committed to working in innovative and creative ways with Local Authorities, schools, organisations, communities and individuals to enrich and extend learning for young people aged 5 to 25.

2. Our aim is to create an 'open' university for young people, so that they can access a range of challenging learning opportunities in and beyond their school. Being part of a 'university' in early life helps to raise aspirations, increases the likelihood of young people going on to Further and Higher Education and develops skills that will help them succeed in their future lives and employment.

3. Raising young people's aspirations and achievements by improving confidence and self-belief through exciting and memorable educational experiences is at the heart of what we do. Young people are supported through the UFA to become role models and leaders who develop and lead learning opportunities for others in their communities.

4. The UFA explores imaginative approaches to training in order to engage teachers and other professionals, parents, carers, community organisations and businesses in transforming their own learning practice. From this training we create learning teams of the adults and young people with whom we work.
